topic 2: sleep

Sleep is very important for any age group, whether your 5 years old or 55 years old. Many people dont see the point in sleep therefore they only get about 5 or 6 hours each night, this is HARMING your body and mind. You need to sleep because is helps your mental and physical health and quality of life.

Sleep helps to make your brain function. When you sleep your brain is preparing it self for tomorrow; it is creating new pathways to help you learn and remember. Scientist have conducted studies and found that a good nights sleep helps you to learn new things easier, make decisions and to be creative. Scientist have also found out that not getting enough sleep can alter activity in your brain, it can alter making decisions, problem solving, coping with change and handling your emotions and behavior it has even been linked to depression and suicide.

Sleep helps physical health, it helps to repair injuries. Sleep gives you energy, supports growing and development, boosts muscles and helps to keep your immune system up. Not getting enough sleep has been linked to obesity, diseases, strokes, high blood pressure, and stunted growth. People who don’t get enough sleep often have slower reaction time, concentration problems and paperwork slower and with more mistakes.

How much sleep you get depends on how old you are, health, energy use and mental activity. Infants need about 16 hours per day, teenagers about 9 hours and most adults about 7-8 hours. Keep in mind they are just approximates, averages for each age group. Some people need as little as 5 hours while other may need up to 10 hours.
